Mayor Wilda Diaz, Local Businesses and Community Leaders Unite To Raise $100,000 to Assist Families Facing Food Scarcity

The City of Perth Amboy and a local nonprofit made a life-saving decision as the coronavirus swept through the community. COVID-19 has devastated many families. People have gotten sick and lost their jobs as businesses closed, and they are running out of money to buy enough food for their families.

In response to the crisis, the Hon. Wilda Diaz, Mayor of Perth Amboy, and Barry Rosengarten, chairman of the not-for-profit Celebrate Our Stars & Stripes organization, decided to cancel the city’s annual fireworks spectacular.

They took action and launched the not-for-profit Perth Amboy COVID Help organization. The nonprofit’s key mission is to rapidly raise $100,000 to purchase food and basic supplies for the city’s households who need help feeding their families.

Perth Amboy COVID Help is asking corporations and companies, which have sponsored the fireworks, to redirect their donations to the fundraising to buy food. Each contribution to the nonprofit Perth Amboy COVID Help organization is 100% tax deductible.

Corporate, small business and individual donors may securely contribute funds online now by clicking on the “Donate” button on this website. Contributions may also be sent to:

Perth Amboy COVID Help, P.O. Box 999, Perth Amboy, N.J. 08862.

Please make checks payable to CPA COVID-19 HELP.

All donations will be applied to large-scale food purchases. Truckloads of groceries and basic supplies will soon be delivered to the Perth Amboy Department of Human Services’ Community Center, which Director Kenny Ortiz and his team of volunteers have converted to a food distribution facility.

Director Ortiz and many dedicated volunteers have already sorted, packed and delivered thousands and thousands of pounds of donated food and supplies to local households. The community’s demand for groceries continues to exceed the current supply of food donations.

Perth Amboy COVID Help is guided by a committee of volunteers who are working together to secure a steady flow of contributions for food purchases. The group’s leadership includes community and religious leaders, business owners, residents and members of the Perth Amboy Business Improvement District (BID).

Perth Amboy COVID Help is a 501(c) (3) entity. Each contribution is 100% tax deductible.
